Sublease

Example: A transaction whereby a tenant (one who has leased premises from the owner or landlord) grants to another an interest less than his own in the leased premises. For example, A rents an apartment for 12 months but after 3 months has to leave town for two years. he negotiates a "sublease" with B for the remaining 9 months of A's lease. B is now the subtenant with a sublease.
