Example: The withholding or postoning of the sentencing or the execution of a penalty for a crime for a certain period by order of the court. The suspension of the exection of a sentence may last for an indefinite time, or only while the convicted person refrains from commiting further crimes or other misconduct, in which case he or she might face a cumulative sentence.
